Settled on a mountain ridge, the village of Castelo de Vide spreads across a sinuous ground and preserves a very peculiar organic urbanism, where the Castle and the medieval borough are history’s living witnesses. An important part of this village’s tradition is preserved in the Jewish quarter.
Located in the central Portuguese region of Alto Alentejo, its landscape is composed mostly of gentle plains crossed by seasonal streams and marked by granite outcrops. The fact that in recent years this rural territory has been used mainly as pasture with little mechanized agriculture has helped to preserve its archaeological sites, from megalithic tombs to early medieval settlements and many others.
